1,183 days have gone since the penultimate Game of Thrones episode, which left King's Landing in a blazing heap of wreckage and burned flesh. After so many months, HBO's House of the Dragon triumphantly returns to Westeros's capital. 

The 7 Kingdoms are once more on the cusp of a succession war, the Targaryens—who look even cooler—have taken control of the Iron Throne, dragons are circling the city without the populace running away in terror.

Although the fact that House of the Dragon is a prequel to Game of Thrones is immediately apparent, it is not immediately evident how prequel the prequels are.

There are still many generations to go before Daenerys Targaryen, whose presence looms over the city that hasn't yet been destroyed. Princess Rhaenyra, who we first notice flying above the city on her dragon and who bears a remarkable likeness to Daenerys at the entrance to Kings Landing, is a distant ancestor of Daenerys.

When Does The House Of Dragon Take Place

Westeros' history can be divided into two periods: Before Conquest (BC) and After Conquest (AC). Aegon I's landing in Westeros at time zero marked the start of the Targaryen Conquest. (In this way, the family gains control.)

The events of House of Dragon take place in AC, despite the fact that some characters will recall real BC events like the Doom of Valyria, a Pompeii-like calamity that nearly wiped off all the dragons.

"I liked the idea of focusing on one family, and obviously the Targaryens had plenty of drama to go around," Condal said. The author continued, "I also appreciated the echo of how empires can collapse quickly; those are the types of talks we are having in our own country, which I don't think is anything I would have anticipated we'd be discussing twenty years ago.

The Targaryen Family Story and House of Dragons

Because it is a more intimate tale, House of the Dragon won't go as long as Game of Thrones did. I think the producers' ambitions for three or four seasons are about right; I don't see them extending this battle any further than that.

However, everything is possible. Condal asserts that HBO agrees with his idea to end the programme after a specific number of seasons. He said, "The easiest thing to do with television endings."

Based on George R.R. Martin's book Fire & Blood, which tells the story of the Targaryen dynasty from its beginning in Valyria to the Dance of the Dragons, House of the Dragon would carry the story to the death of Daenerys Targaryen's father, the Mad King Aerys.
